Methodology
Community score
A firm's score is a weighted Bayesian average, on a 1 to 5 scale:
score = v / (v + m) × R + m / (v + m) × C
v: weighted number of reviews;R: weighted mean rating.m= 10: vote threshold. With few reviews, the score stays close toC.C= 3: reference mean.- A verified review weighs 1, an unverified review weighs 0.5.
A firm with no reviews has no score.
Which reviews count
Published and contested reviews count. Pending and removed reviews do not. Contesting a review therefore does not lower the score.
Reviews are written by users of the site, who must have a verified email address. Posting is open for prop firms shown on the site (closed firms included):
- One review per user and per firm. A firm's members, and users with a pending claim on the firm, cannot review it.
- 50 to 3000 characters of plain text; links are refused. Rating from 1 to 5, and the language of the review (French or English).
- At most 5 reviews per user in 24 hours.
- A review is published immediately, with no prior moderation. It is shown under the author's public handle (a pseudonym chosen at sign-up); no real name is collected.
- The author can edit the rating and the text, which marks the review as edited with the date, unless a removal request is open on it. The author can delete the review, which also deletes its firm reply, its proof file and the reputation points earned with it; the score is recomputed.
Verified reviews
A review is verified when an administrator has validated a proof (purchase receipt, payout screenshot) sent by its author. It then carries the "Verified" badge and weighs more in the score. Until then a review with a proof stays unverified and weighs 0.5.
- A proof is optional and can be sent when posting or later, from "My reviews": JPG, PNG or PDF, 5 MB at most. The author is asked to hide sensitive data (account number, email address, full name).
- An administrator validates the proof or refuses it with written reasons; the decision is recorded in the audit log and notified to the author in the language of the review. After a refusal the author can send a new proof or ask for the file to be deleted.
- Proof files are stored privately, not reachable by a public URL, and can be opened only by their author and by administrators. Images are re-encoded when stored, which removes their metadata (EXIF); PDF files are stored unchanged.
- A proof file is deleted with its review or with the author's account.
Roasts
Every published fact rests on a source (URL) and a capture date. The editorial "roast" score is set by hand and is never combined with the community score.
Firm rules
The rules shown on a firm page (account sizes, targets, drawdown, payouts, fees) are read on the firm's own public pages. A rule is displayed only if its exact quote is found, word for word, in the text of the source page at the date it was checked; a quote that is missing, altered or not found keeps the rule out, and so does a number of the value that the quote does not contain. Values are reproduced as collected, without interpretation, with the reading date and a link to the source page; the exact quote can be opened under each rule. The check compares text only: it does not tell whether a rule is still current. Rules change, so verify them at the source before paying.
Platform score
The platform score (0 to 100, shown on a firm's page next to the community rating) is a separate, editorial score computed only from a firm's verified rule facts: no affiliation data and no human judgment enter the calculation, which follows a fixed method.
A prop firm is scored once it has at least 15 verified facts and at least two of the four pillars below have data. Otherwise it has no platform score at all (not a 0).
- Transparency (30%): share of a fixed list of core rules (account sizes, drawdown, payout terms, fees, support, terms of service...) that the firm has a verified fact for.
- Payout terms (30%): profit split, delay before the first payout, payout frequency, fee refund.
- Flexibility (25%): consistency rule, news trading, expert advisors, weekend holding, time limit, drawdown type.
- Cost (15%): monthly fee, activation fee.
Each pillar is the average of its available sub-signals only; text that does not match a recognized pattern (a percentage, a day count, an allowed/prohibited keyword) excludes that sub-signal rather than scoring it 0. A pillar with no available sub-signal for a firm is excluded and its weight is redistributed proportionally over the pillars that do have data for that firm.
A penalty of up to 20 points is subtracted when a firm's verified facts include notes flagging a contradiction between sources, proportionally to how many of its facts are flagged. The final score is floored at 0 and rounded to 2 decimals.
Roaster reputation
A user's reputation is the sum of their event points. Deleting a review removes the points it earned:
- +1 per published review (once per review).
- +5 more when the review is verified (once per review).
- -10 when a removal is accepted for lack of proof of customer relationship, fake review or illegal content.
- +10 when an appeal overturns such a removal.
A removal accepted for personal data or a disputed fact costs no points. Reputation is not part of the score calculation.
The public profile of a Roaster (/roasters/<handle>) shows the handle, the sign-up month and year, the reputation, a level derived from it, the number of published and verified reviews, and the published reviews. It never shows the email address. Levels, from the minimum reputation:
- Cold coal: 0 points or more
- Embers: 5 points or more
- Flame: 20 points or more
- Blaze: 50 points or more
- Grill master: 100 points or more
Firm reply and removal request
- A firm member whose link to the firm is verified can reply publicly to a published or contested review, once per review. The link is verified by an email at the firm's website domain, by a DNS TXT record on that domain, or, for firms with no website, by an administrator's decision. Edits keep the history of previous versions, and an edited reply is marked as such.
- That member can request the removal of a published review for one of these reasons: no proof of customer relationship, fake review, personal data, illegal content, disputed fact. A comment is required. Disagreeing with an opinion is not a reason. The review stays displayed and counted, marked "contested", while the request is examined, and its author is told the reason and the comment.
- An administrator decides and gives written reasons, sent to both parties. Removal accepted: the review is removed. Removal rejected: the review is published again. Each decision is recorded in an audit log.
- The review author can appeal an accepted removal once. An administrator decides, another one than the first decider whenever there is more than one: removal upheld, or removal overturned (the review is published again).
